On primetime TV, talk shows are a dime a dozen. Yet, there are very
few that present the Catholic standpoint on issues, much less, few that
are hosted by well-known and competent Church authorities. Light Talk
aims to do both of these. It intends to touch on topics that are relevant
to Filipinos and more importantly present the Church’s take on these
topics. It therefore aims to make the Church and her teachings relevant
to the everyday lives of Filipinos.
Light Talk immediately connotes discussion or forum, as in round-table
discussion. At the same time, it implies table fellowship as in gathered
Light Talk of the Lord. This title then captures the objective of the
program. Not only do we want to feed the mind with intelligent discussion
of the issues of the day, presentation of the Church's take on these
issues.
The talk show seeks to appeal not only to the Catholic faithful, but
also to other audience that are looking for a higher moral ground in
the midst of the conundrum of opinions attending controversies and issues.
Specifically, we would like to dialogue with professional people (ages
30-50) as well as the young professionals or yuppies (ages 20-30).
THE HOST: Bishop Chito Tagle has been known
for two things: First, his competence in theology, being part
of the Vatican's International Theological Commission at one
time and now the Pope's Council of Bishops. Secondly, Bishop
Chito is well known for his ability to bring his theology
down to the concrete experiences of people, even the "masa".
He is very pastoral in his approach to the Church's doctrine
and has been very effective with his preaching that is often
sprinkled with humor and heart warming real life stories.
THE TOPICS: The show will aim at relevance
as well as versatility and variety in terms of topics featured.
A wide range of topics can thus be covered from socio-political
and cultural issues to spiritual matters.
