any thread supporting mau is a welcome addition. mau's fan could still not have enough of Mau. Go Maureenians!!
GO MAU!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mau_Marcelo
nice article about mau in wikipedia, i've read it already.
sina Francis Magalona, Pilita Corrales and Mr. Ryan Cayabyab.
Come to think of it, sayang ang Philippine Idol.
* * *
article from PSN - another tabloid dunk!
napag-iiwanan.
makaka-survive.
program tulad ng Ali, Frontline, Metro, Docu at Real Story at ilang entertainment shows.

Mau will sing with Yeng too. So it's an all-female winners' number.
Congrats to Mau for a job well done in ASAP!
I just bought her CD-Lite. Her version of Love Takes Time is refreshing. I love a singer who can effortlessly do vocal calisthenics.

Mau Marcelo releases album; gears up for Valentine concert
spacer
Crispina Martiner Belen
Mau Marcelo, the first Philippine Idol grand winner, still couldnt believe her good fortune. As Philippine Idol winner, she earned a considerable sum
of money, now has a steady stream of good-paying jobs, and what more, she has realized her long-time dream of recording her own album. Her CD-Lite
"On My Own" featuring her winning piece "Try It On My Own," a Whitney Houston original, has hit the stores nationwide. Released by Sony BMG Music
Entertainment, the CD-Lite also includes Maus version of "Love Takes Time," her song piece during the finals, and the Ariel Rivera hit "Minsan
Lang Kitang Iibigin" plus minus ones of the said singles.
The CD-Lite is just the beginning of her recording career. Within the year, Mau will be releasing her long-awaited debut album, under Sony BMG which
signed her up right after her winning the Philippine Idol title.
Mau is now gearing up for "Valentines Final 12," a post-Valentine show featuring her and the other Philippine Idol 12 finalists. This will be held
on March 23 at 8 p.m. at the Araneta Coliseum. The featured artists, aside from Mau Marcelo, are Jan Nieto, Gian Magdangal, Miguel Mendoza, Pow
Chavez, Ken Dingle, Apples Chiu, Arms Cruz, Jeli Mateo, Reymond Sajor, Drae Ybaez and Stef Lazaro. Directed by Rich Ilustre and written by Noel
Ferrer with Mel Villena as music director, "Valentines Final 12" is presented by SMART in cooperation with PLDT, McDonalds, Alaska, SonyBMG and ABC
5.
Like Songbird Regine Velasquez and some other of our top performers Mau Marcelo is a product of various singing competitions in her hometown (Lucena
City), and places nearby like Batangas and other towns of Quezon. From these, she amassed many trophies.
Mau started singing at age seven and she said she was influenced by her idols Mariah Carey, ABBA and Bob Marley. After her "graduation" from amateur
singing contests, Mau started performing with a band called Chemical Syndrome in Lucena. She also had the chance to perform abroad, but her dream of
being recognized by a wider audience remained elusive. Until Philippine Idol announced it was holding auditions.
Mau came to Manila to try her luck among the thousands who auditioned to join the internationally-franchised reality show. The moment she opened her
mouth and sung, judges Pilita Corrales, Francis Magalona and Maestro Ryan Cayabyab were left in awe. They automatically let her in but they had their
reservation they thought she was not the type of singer the public would vote for. After all, she was big, with a different color which she got from
her Puerto Rican father.
True enough, Mau didnt make the cut. But she was given another chance to compete again. She made it to the finals as a wildcat contestant.
Understandably dejected, she thought it was the end of her dream but it turned out to be just the beginning of her time to shine.
By the way, Mau has two kids with her boyfriend. She has a non-exclusive contract with ABS-CBN and shes being managed now by Sandra Chavez whos also
the manager of megastar Sharon Cuneta.

Some newspapers are indicating that the concert is still on February 9. That's hurting the promo of the concert!
The concert is on MARCH 23. Just call TicketNet (9115555) for information. And by the way, TicketNet is already selling tickets.
Please buy your tickets for the Idol Concert on March 23 presented by ArtistHouse.

The Dreamer & The Idol
CONVERSATIONS With Ricky Lo
The Philippine Star 02/04/2007
Close on the heels of each other, ABS-CBNs reality TV Pinoy Dream Academy and ABC 5s Philippine Idol recently held grand finals at the Araneta
Coliseum before cheering SRO audiences. And the winners were: Josephine "Yeng" Constantino, 18, Grand Star Dreamer; and Maureen "Mau" Marcelo, 26,
The Idol.
Curiously enough, the two both come from humble beginnings. But they resolved to hitch their wagon to a star, so to speak. They dreamed, they believed
and they survived the rigid auditions, the back-breaking rehearsals and the suspense-filled elimination process watched by millions around the
country. Their fate was sealed not only by "star potential" (as was those of the other "dreamers" and "possible idols") but by the whim of
televiewers whose text votes were a decisive factor.
Even before Yeng entered the Academy as one of the "scholars," she had already composed a song entitled Hawak Kamay (used as theme song of Star
Cinemas Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo, starring Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo, the top-grosser of last years Metro Manila Film Festival), dedicated to
her cousin who ran away from home feeling unloved but welcomed back with open arms by kith and kin. Hawak Kamay has become the anthem of teeners who
draw strength from one another if, you know, they hold on together.
A few years before she competed in the Star For a Night search (won by Sarah Geronimo), Mau decided to live in with her boyfriend and have two
children. "Thats true; I dont deny it," said Mau whose hefty build reminds people of Jennifer Hudson, the American Idol loser now winning raves in
her first Hollywood movie, Dreamgirls. Mau has just wrapped up her debut album, On My Own (released by Sony BMG Music Entertainment), which was her
winning piece.
Yeng and Mau have interesting stories to tell that is, stories of hope and faith and not giving up on wishing upon a star.
What have been the changes in your life since you won?
Yeng: A lot, financially. We dont have to borrow money anymore. Im the youngest of five children and my family was really hard-up. My parents had to
borrow money for our tuition fees. My dad (Joselito Constantino) worked as an assistant librarian at Ateneo de Manila; my mom, Susan (Eusebio), is a
plain housewife. I wanted to take up a course in music at UP but then... medyo sablay. Lack of funds. In attitude, I think I have improved. Nagkaroon
ako ng... how do you call it... breeding?
Mau: Not much, really. Well, my lifestyle has improved a bit. Anytime now, my family (husband Richie Marcelo, 27, and their two children, Patricia,
four years old, and Paulo, nine months old) are moving to Manila from Lucena where we have been renting a small apartment. My husband stopped working
as messenger at the Lucena City Hall and he helps me in my career. But Im still the same. Its not true that my winning has gone to my head.
Did you think that you would end up the winner?
Yeng: No, I didnt expect to win. Any of us could have won. It was tough. Thousands auditioned, coming from all over the country. Only 20 qualified
for the Academy. Then, only 10 were left to do an album for (Star Records).
Mau: No, I did not. Kasi, botohan yan, eh. We didnt have money to buy loads for texting. (Laughs) You need lots of money to do that. My opponents
were rich, so I was scared. I didnt know that the televiewers liked me. Thank you po sa kanila.
Who did you think was your closest rival (during the Final Six portion of the PDA at the Big Dome selection, the five others being Jay-R Siaboc,
Ronnie Liang, Panky Trinidad, Irish Fullerton and Chad Peralta; and for Idol, the two other finalists were Jan Nieto and Gian Magdangal)?
Yeng: I thought Kuya Ronnie would win. Hes a nice guy; he showed his talents by trying all kinds of music genres nag-Macho Guapito siya while we
were inside the Academy. The televiewers saw how talented and diligent he was. Or Ate Panky. Or Ronnie. Or Irish. Or Chad. They were all my closest
rivals. Magagaling, eh!
Mau: Si Jan po. Rich yon, eh! Gian also had a lot of supporters. I thought I had only a few.
What do you think was your edge over them, your having written a hit song?
Yeng: I dont think my song writing ability was an edge. My classmates also knew how to write songs; they sing and dance well.
(Laughs) People told me that with my voice, I had an edge over the other finalists. And it turned out that
I had many supporters pala out there.
What about the text votes from televiewers?
Yeng: I thought Id lost because we couldnt afford to spend money on texting. I asked my mom, "Did you ask anybody to text votes for me?" She said,
"No, I did not." Thank God, I thought she borrowed money for text-voting. Im thankful that the televiewers believed in me enough to text votes for
me.
How many other contests had you joined before you joined the Academy/Idol?
Yeng: A few Battle of the Bands, StarStruck, Star in a Million, Star Circle Quest, amateur singing contests. Id been auditioning and joining
contests since I was nine years old; kadalasan, talo. Id been so used to losing that I didnt expect to win at PDA. During the auditions, I told
myself, "If you dont make it, okay lang." Sanay ako matalo, eh! Before joining the PDA, I was with my own band called Morning Glory. I was the only
female member. I was only 14 then.
Mau: A lot. Sing-Galing (finalist), Star Circle Quest, Panasonic Karaoke Contest, the Tsibugan (on RPN 9) singing contest (winner) and the Star For a
Night.
Who are the artists who have influenced your singing style?
Yeng: A lot. Dionne Warwick, Shirley Bassey, Diana Ross. They are my dads favorite singers and he made me listen to them since I was a kid. My dad is
fond of mambo-jazz. I prefer pop, R n B and, later, rock. I like the style of Mandy Moore, Destinys Child, Toni Braxton.
Mau: I idolize several singers but I dont let them influence me. Otherwise, I might end up imitating their styles. I want to have my own style. My
big favorite since I was a child is Whitney Houston, thats why I chose her song, On My Own, as my (winning) piece.
To Mau: How many siblings do you have?
Mau: My father, a Puerto Rican, left us when I was four months old. My mother died when I was 14. Im their only child. My mom remarried and she had
one child; on my dads side, I have three siblings. My dad lives in California. He was about to petition for me when I joined Philippine Idol.
Was your dad the one who trained you?
Yeng: Yes. He didnt know how to sing but he taught me how to sing. Magaling siya! He would tell me how to move my lips while singing. At first, I
didnt believe him. I would tease him, "Why teach me when you dont know how to sing?"
Mau: I got my love for singing from my parents. Pareho silang singers, members of bands in Angeles City where they met. My dad played musical
instruments very well. It was my mom who trained me. At first, she thought I was a better dancer than singer. When I was in grade school at the Manuel
S. Enverga University in Lucena, I joined a singing contest. It was the schools Foundation Day. The teacher asked who wanted to join the singing
contest and I raised my hand. My mom was surprised. "Why, do you know how to sing? I thought you were a dancer." I sang Somewhere Out There and I
beat contestants from Grades Two to Six. I was only seven years old. Since then, my mom began training me as a singer. Everytime she heard a new song,
she would ask me to study it.
How old were you when you realized you could sing?
Yeng: I was four years old. I stood on top of a table in my dads room and sang Total Eclipse of the Heart (by Bonnie Tyler).
Mau: When I joined the singing contest during our schools Foundation Day. When I turned eight years old, I started joining singing contests in
different towns in Quezon.
Whats your favorite piece?
Yeng: Hawak Kamay. That song is very me. Akong-ako yon, eh! I wrote that song for my cousin who stowed away and came back after eight months. She was
an orphan and she felt that nobody loved her. She was my confidante, my shoulder to cry on. When she left, I felt lost. That song was some kind of a
reassurance that everything will be all right if we only hold hands. Im now sending her to school. I used to sing that song with my band but nobody
noticed it until I got into the Academy.
What did you do with your prizes?
Yeng: I bought a piece of lot. We have moved to an apartment on Boni Avenue in Mandaluyong. We were squatters in Montalban, Rizal, and the place was
recently demolished.
Mau: I won P1-M cash and a P1-M non-exclusive contract with ABC 5 and a recording contract with Sony BMG. I bought a second-hand car and things for
our house; we paid our debts and I gave some to my relatives. Dumami nga ang mga kamag-anak ko, eh! (Laughs)
Doesnt your love life get in the way of your career?
Yeng: No. I dont have a boyfriend. I never had a boyfriend. Im only 18. Having a boyfriend is a nice inspiration but it doesnt mean that just
because you need an inspiration you have to look for one.
Mau: No. My husband is okay; hes supportive of me. Were planning to get married.
If you were a song, what would it be?
Yeng: Hawak Kamay.
Mau: On My Own.

it was SOP's loss not to guest Mau Marcelo in their show, cguro nathreaten sila kay Mau kasi mas magaling sya kesa kay Jonalyn.

@ avid-soul,
thanks for the info. sana mag number 1 din ang single ni mau sa love radio , yes fm at 101.1 FM
wow thats cool. kailangan maging platinum para maging worth it yung pagiging philippine Idol nya
Nora Aunor is my idol too believe it or not but not her voice i only admire her acting until i heard her song langit pala ang umibig is brillant.
I wish Mau were given a regular stint on TV.
please watch shall we dance on feb 18.
mau's on my own will be given a fast version.
mataas naman ang ratings ng shall we dance... that's the highest rating ABC5 among its current shows.
great news, guys! mau's on my own is #2 in today's yescalera at YESFM 101.1
nina's someday is in #1 spot. let's continue texting YES On My Own and Loveradio 4k On My Own to 2299

Thanks!
CATCH MAU TONIGHT, ON SHALL WE DANCE!
I found her number and guesting on Shall We Dance lackluster, disappointing.
The gown she donned, she already wore it twice (PI Final Perfomance Night & 1st guesting on Shall We Dance). I mean, doesn't she have anything
else to wear?
And why wasn't she given the opportunity to promote her album? Or at least had her album flashed during the credits of the show?
Tsk tsk tsk. Mau can't afford wasted opportunities like last night's guesting. I hope her handlers take note of the errors.
[Edited on 2-12-2007 by saturnyne]
i agree with you, saturnyne.
i don't know about the gown she wore, but i really waited all night . . . i was hoping mau will be given a spot to promote her cd and at least update
her fans on what's going on with her career . . . bitin talaga ako. i went to bed with a heavy heart . . . huhuhu
yeah right...bitin nga ang exposure ni mau sa shall we dance. buti na nga lang at na-mention ni dominic ochoa yung name ni mau marcelo as the
philippine idol.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
Maus guesting on HomeBoy will not be seen tomorrow, February 13. She will just start taping tomorrow. Airing of the "Mau" episode will be
announced later.
Updates will surely be posted.
Apologies are extended for the mistake and the confusion that may have ensued
[Edited on 2-12-2007 by saturnyne]
on a positive note, didn't you notice during her guesting last sunday at shall we dance . . . mau has lost a lot of weight!
good for her . . . way to go, mau!
please don't forget to watch HOMEBOY tomorrow on ABS-CBN at around 10:30am.
mau will be there!!!
GO MAU!
GO DUNK!
Keep on requesting for Mau's song on the radio and make her CD sell more. Nagpabili pa ako ulit ng additional copies beside the first 20 copies kasi
If we were able to spend thousands during the text
voting, now is our chance to prove the PI people that Mau deserved to win and that she's got strong following.
Quote:
Congratulations to Mau for a good guesting on HomeBoy earlier!
It's good that she was given the opportunity to promote both her album and the Idol Concert. And of course, her singing was flawless!
It was also mentioned that Mau will sing alongside Lani Misalucha on the latter's concert. The said concert will be on March 17, at the Araneta
Coliseum, a week before the Idol Concert. For tickets, call TicketNet (911-5555).
Congrats Mau!
that was great exposure for mau!
what's even greater is that she will be guesting in ms. lani misalucha's concert... being able to reach out to a different audience! galing!!!
wow, to be able to sing with the great Lani Misalucha is really something. Go Mau. Truly world class ang dating mo.
Aside from Lanis knock-out exciting concert repertoire, one of the things to look forward to in the "Lani: Missing You" gig is the showdown between
the relatively new music heavyweights Star In A Million 2nd Season Champion Frenchie Dy and 1st Philippine Idol Mau Marcelo. Watch out for it on March
17 at the Big Dome!
I wonder how her single is doing on the charts...
d ko rin alam kasi nawawalan ako ng time to listen to the radio...
not just one... but two shows!!!
not just one... but two stations!!!
watch out for the first and only philippine idol MAU MARCELO next week @ wowowee (abs-cbn) and moms (qtv)!!!
more details to follow...
Our first, the one and only Philippine Idol is really amazing. Eat your hearts out Mau detractors. The diamond diva is sparkling in every
performance.
all maureenians must simply trust her handlers...
it's best for her not to really have an exclusive contract as of the moment so she can reach viewers of all kind.
kerek!! leave it to the expert Ms. Sandra Chavez. After all, she is the reason behind the long lasting success of the mega star Sharon Cuneta.
Thanks Dunk!
Go Mau!
i wish mau will guest also in Sharon one day soon.......
Here are the links for the YouTube videos of Mau's HomeBoy Guesting:

Today, nag-slide sa no.4 ang song ni mau sa YESFM 101.1. Last night, no. 2 pa sya.
Common, guys! Let's not forget to text YES On My Own to 2299. Let's make her song the most requested.
# 4?! Have to text...
Sob, sob...
Wala na akong oras makinig ng radyo! Gusto ko pa naman iyong kanta!!!
God bless us all!
does anyone know how her single is doing now on the radio charts?
dunk, any updates?
Quote:
Go Mau, Go Maureenians,
Let us all go watch the Final 12's concert and re-live our exciting Philippine idol moments. Go Idols.
husband ko yung date na March 23, that's the time they checked their calendar . . .
see you all at the concert!
Well, Lani Misalucha is also clueless about her concert. On The Buzz last Sunday, she was asked who her guests are and she said "Moy", referring to
Mau. And when she was asked how to buy tickets, she said that people should just go to Megamall.
So unprofessional of her.
And by the way, Lani has become ditsy, pretentious even. Proof of which is her faux American accent.
this coming march, aside from Philippine Idol Mau Marcelo's guesting in MOM's (QTV11), Lani Misalucha's concert, and their very own concert (with
the final 12), another first will happen...
Mau will be in Vietnam to guest in Vietnam Idol. Here, she will not only be seen by kababayans abraod but also by a real foreign audience. TRULY WORLD
CLASS!!!
DUNK! You forgot to post that Mau will be on Wowowee this Monday, February 26.
Mau will be singing with Panky and Frenchie.
Don't miss it! (But I hope someone records it for those of us who won't be able to see it.)
Is it true that Mau will guest on HomeBoy again?
Go Mau!! i hope that this is going to be a start of bigger things to come.
Congrats!

ganon? ibig sabihin dunk, hindi reliable yung ibang nagbbalita abt. mau?
Idolforever, nope di naman ganun, mau has a lot of fans na very close din sa kanya, closer nga lang kami siguro ni dunk kaya mas marami kaming honest
to goodness news regarding with her, like
today Mau is in Baguio for the 'Flower Festival Show' together with Kris Lawrence, Jay Perillo and Karylle.
Her 2nd guesting at Homeboy will have a taping on Tuesday. She will be with Ms. Lani Misalucha and Frenchie Dy for their upcoming concert at
Araneta.
Her Vietnam Idol guesting will be on March 28-30.
Her full length album will start recording only next month, pinag-aaralan pa ring mabuti ng SONY-BMG 'yong mga original compositions that Mau will be
recorded. It will carry a songs from stellar composers of the Filipino music. It will also include a song written and produced by her bro-in-law from

---------------------
wow! sarap manuod ng concert nila just to see how mau will perform with lani m. in one number . . . but due to budget constraints . . . sa Final 12
concert na lang ako manonuod kasi idols and bida dun!
sana . . . may magpost ng video nito (mau in lani m's concert) sa youtube
Re: Mau's guesting on ASAP (March 4)
She should've worn a better gown. I mean the granny shawl/scarf wasn't fit for her age.
Her singing was great as usual, better than Frenchie's shouting.
The one major blunder in Mau's number: Lani Misalucha.
I mean all throughout ASAP, Lani was ditsy and attention-starved. So ditsy in fact that she forgot her words while singing McArthur's Park for her
opening number. A veteran singer like her MUST know that song by heart. Not just that, Lani almost fell on ASAP's rotating stage because of her
I-want-all-the-spotlight-for-me antics. And with her number with Mau, Lani could be seen reading the lyrics of Crazy. Couldn't she be discreet
about it?
Lani is committing one blunder after another. She is becoming the major reason for not watching her concert.

yup, she thanked her fans, especially those who constantly defend her in this forum.
So dunk, Mau extends her heartfelt gratitude. Haha!
Re: Mau's guesting on Moms
Mau's story is poignant. Hers is a tale of struggle and well-deserved success.
My only complaint: The top she wore was the top she wore for her "Love Takes Time" number for the Final Performance Night. Again, doesn't she
have anything else to wear?

to avid_soul:
I totally agree! It does seem that Lani is not taking her ASAP stint seriously.
Let's just put things in perspective: Lani is not an international artist. She is a hotel singer in Las Vegas. Some Filipinos just make a deal
about her job because they think that anything stamped with "US" is a big thing. Again, Lani is a hotel singer who needs to earn to compensate for
the money she lost through a pyramid scam.
For Mau fans who want to reminisce:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yCwMD-PSLU
According to my source sa Saturday kakanta si Mau sa Laguna
i never liked Lani Misalucha even before. those making a big fuss of being in Las Vegas should wake up pronto. Las Vegas is just a city so Lani can
only be considered a lounge singer, no more , no less.
Quote:

yup. no big deal in performing in las vegas. ang dami kayang nagp-perform doon...
Again, Lani forgot her words while singing with Gary V on ASAP earlier.
tsk tsk tsk
siguro...wala kasi masyadong time si Lani mag-practice... masyado ba hectic schedule niya...???!!!

here's an article from The Manila Bulletin Online: http://www.mb.com.ph/ENTR2007031289230.html
Local Idols name American Idol bets
By KAYE VILLAGOMEZ
For "Philippine Idols" Mau Marcelo, Jan Nieto and Gian Magdangal, they have awarded their "American Idol" nods to Lakisha Jones and Melinda
Doolittle, who are currently slugging each other off for the best singer race in the sixth season of the worlds most popular show.
The Filipino counterparts thought it would be a close showdown between the two American belters. "Lakisha is very good and so is Melinda. Kung
one-time contest nga lang yun, they would have been in a face-off," the top three "Philippine Idols" in a recent press conference for their major
concert slated on March 23 at the Araneta Coliseum.
Considered a reunion concert, the show billed "Final 12: The Concert" will also feature the rest of the finalists: Miguel Mendoza, Pow Chavez, Ken
Dingle, Apple Chiu, Arms Cruz, Jeli Mateo, Reymond Sajor, Drae Ybanez and Stef Lazaro.
Mau, who expressed to the media significant changes in life since she won, said the concert "might be the first and the last we will all be together
again because most of the contestants are moving on; some are even migrating abroad."
This being said, the finalists disclosed that they did expect more than what they are now getting post Philippine Idol. "You can that yes there were
a lot of things we expected after the contest but we still trust our management though you cannot hide the fact that there has been a lull after all
that hype during the contest," Jan Nieto shared.
Crowned Idol Mau added, "There is no question that the blessings I get to enjoy now were nothing but dreams before pero sana mas marami pang
guestings or I am hoping that there will be a show pa or something more regular for us from ABC-5 or something like that."
The local Idols also lament rumors that there might not be a second season. "It would be nice kung magkakaron ng season two. Nakaklungkot kung wala
na di ba?" Jan said.
Among the final three, it is Gian Magdangal who is enjoying regular TV exposure via "SOP" on Sundays. "I am very grateful for the opportunity GMA
has given me," Gian, who is saving up to produce his own CD, noted. "Its really a dream come and its something I hope my Idol batchmates will also
share with me."
Jan agreed saying, "The success of one has always been the success of all for us because thats how well we bonded during the show. Gian deserves the
blessings hes been getting and were happy for him."
("Final 12: The Concert" will staged at the Araneta Coliseum on March 23. For tickets, contact Ticketnet and the Araneta box-office.)

tsk tsk tsk! i sincerely sympathize with them. Had PI been handled eithter by ABS-CBN or GMA 7, the winners could have been superstars already this
early.
ABC should have agreed then to a team-up with ABS CBN for Philippine Idol.
2 days to go . . . concert na ni lani misalucha.
let's hope and pray that mau will be able to shine in her solo number and in her dreamgirls number with frenchie and lani.
just as she touched our hearts in her every performance during PI, let's pray that she'll be able give a heartwarming performance and capture the
hearts of everyone in the audience . . .
sana merong manood sa forumers . . . and record mau's performance . . . and upload to youtube . . . pls?!
video clips of Mau's guesting on Moms are available on YouTube.
just search for Mau Marcelo then click Date Added and scroll down to see Mau's clips.
thanks saturnyne, i will check that out.
avid_soul, surely, we will pray for Mau and i am sure, she will give Lani and Frenchie a run for their money, she doesn't need to make birit, just
her soothing voice and unique renditions would suffice for a great performance. Go Mau!!

My mom told me that last night, Showbiz Ka! (RPN 9's showbiz talk show) showed a bit on a show with Ogie Alcasid, Ara Mina, and Mau Marcelo. My mom
couldn't remember though if the event took place at Metro Bar or Metro Market Market. From what I know, Mau sang/will be singing at Market Market
with Sheryn Regis and other singers for Proudly Pinay (I assume a celebration of Women's Month).
Anyone who can verify?

I like your reason, yankee_flux!
Mau was chosen as one of Quezon Best 25. It basically recognizes the achievements of people who hail from the Quezon Province. Through text votes,
the 25 will be narrowed to Quezon Best 15.
For more info, yesterday's issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Don't forget to watch the airing of the Final 12 Concert, tonight on ABC 5, after Shall We Dance.
Any news on Mau?
Natapos na niya 2 songs from Vehnee Saturno, there are 3 more
new songs (original composition) from other composers that she
is doing the recording until this weekend.
SONY-BMG is looking for a danceable song na babagay kay Mau,
if you have a suggestion, just keep this thread up ... It's a cover song, any suggestions?
Suggestion for a danceable song:
I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Whitney Houston)

Unexpected pairings in singing tilts
By Nestor Torre
Inquirer
Last updated 11:47pm (Mla time) 04/15/2007
x x x
Another unexpected tandem is "Philippine Idol's" Mau Marcelo and "American Idol's" reported frontrunner, LaKisha Jones. They're both dark,
plus-sized, possess powerful voices, and are belters of the first order. They live in different parts of the world, but when their photos are placed
side by side - why, they could be sisters!
The big difference is, LaKisha just sings her best, while Mau was excessively fussed over by designers and stylists to make her look "more
interesting." Alas, all she became was a fashion victim, and that detracted from her victory in the Philippine tilt last year.
To her credit, LaKisha will have none of that. Sure, she dresses better now than before, but her clothes never overwhelm her, as Mau's florid fashion
confections and contraptions did her.
Perhaps Mau can learn from LaKisha's example to be more confident about her talent, so she doesn't feel like she has to resort to looking like a
spectacle to keep her public entertained?
perhaps, nestor torre can stop being bitter. he is a has-been that never was. he aspired to direct local films but all of them flopped.
if you notice all his articles, all his positive reviews are about foreign films or television shows. he always bashes the local entertainment
industry.

Quote:

RE: THE NESTOR TORRE COMMENT ABOUT MAU'S CHOICE OF CLOTHES
You can't actually blame Mau. Compared with A.I., P.I.'s budget for wardrobe is microscopic. If Lakisha's dresses are more nice than Mau's, dahil
yun sa mas mataas nilang budget. The kerching-kerching factor works wonders you know.
What Apple wore for her "Lady Marmalade" number was equally horrendous.
Remember the wedding veil and the maluwang na nalalaglag na trousers?
[Edited on 17-4-2007 by nixx]
Well, I kinda agree with Mr. Torre. And I don't think it's even about having a bigger budget. If PI's stylists were really talented and had good
eyes for fashion, they would be able to produce something fantastic. Too bad they're not (basing on the clothes of the PI Season 1 finalists).
I think Ricci Chan is the "stylist" for the show.
I kinda agree with Mr. Torre too. The "fashion designers" of Mau are trying so hard to make her look "more beautiful" but is failing so miserably.
As Mr. Torre suggests, Mau should highlight more her strong aspects which is singing and just go with simple make-ups and outfits that would fit her.

The question now is, how involved is Mau when it comes to her clothes? Yung stylist ba talaga yung pumipili for her or does she have a hand in
choosing what to wear?
[Edited on 17-4-2007 by nixx]
mukhang dito lang sa PI forums may naga-agree kay nestor torre has-been who never was. hahahaha.

anything else new with Mau?
and why is her new album still not available in many record stores?
DUNK!
I heard Mau's new single I Shine for You on Home Radio 97.9
So heartfelt! Can't wait to finally buy her album!
Try requesting for her song too from MBC stations like Love Radio:
LOVERADIO I SHINE FOR YOU to 2299 or call Love Radio's Request Line 832-61-70
[Edited on 7-6-2007 by saturnyne]
Wow that's great! Her album will be out this July 10. There was a delay due to the remix of 'I Shine for you'
Good to hear that I Shine for you is being played already in the radio station ...
Go Mau!!!

san kaya meron.
PAGING ABC!!! wag nyo kami pahirapan pls
ilabas ang dapat ilabas
hehehe
I went to Odyssey again and, as expected, they didn't have copies. This is really hurting Mau's chances. I mean if they announced June 25 or July
10 as the release date, then there should be copies on that date. Again, this is really hurting Mau's career, big time.
Watch the airing of Lani Misalucha's Missing You concert, tonight, 9:45 pm, ABS CBN 2.
hayyy com'on ABC ilabas nyo na yung CD ni MAU!!!
I passed by a record store earlier... no sign of Mau's CD yet...

I already bought my copy of "I Shine for You" at SM North EDSA (Department Store).
talaga magkano? yeheyy SA WAKAS!!!
Quote:
The CD costs P285.
"I Shine For You" sounds nice, but I personally prefer the remix. The songs have various genres, kumbaga parang kinakapa pa ang niche ni Mau. May
mga slow ballads, may mga power ballads, may dance tracks, etc.
My favorite tracks are "Labis-Labis" and "Keep on Tryin'"
Heto yung link for "I Shine for You (Remix)"

wow ang ganda. how I wish I have 300 in my pocket. grr talking about wrong timing. O well Ill try to buy it this week
I think It will be better If we Request this song on the radio. at least people will know how good her song is.

LOVERADIO <space> I SHINE FOR YOU then send it to 2299
[Edited on 26-7-2007 by starczamora]
Keep texting! Keep reuqesting!
Let's help Mau shine!
Let's help real talent shine, instead of supporting those talentless pricks we often see on tv.
stop uploading her songs here so people will be encouraged to buy. if they can hear it free in the internet, they will not spend money anymore
just to hear the songs of Mau.
i second the motion.
I third the motion
I fourth the motion.
in as much as i want to agree, but i believe her songs should be shared for others awareness. most if not all the people i know are not yet or not
much aware of mau's existence.
Quote:
but not the whole song.
Kudos to Mau and all the people behind her album I Shine for You!
They all did a good job in creating a wonderful album.
The album is definitely worth more than Php 285.

I don't know. Maybe it was just recently launched.
Dear peeps,
don't worry po, Mau will launch her album in ASAP sooner ... abangan
na lang po nating lahat ... she will be having a lot of mall tours and
radio tours to promote this album ...
let your friends and relatives grab this album para maging gold record
agad though wala pang masyadong promotion ...
Regards,

we're still waiting.................... btw, how's the sales of her album doing? parang walang masyadong airplay ang songs ni mau sa radio.

New album
Mau Marcelo, the first “Philippine Idol” champion, has released her first album under Sony BMG titled “I Shine For You.” Her album includes
the songs “Sino Ba Naman Ako,” “Labis Labis,” her winning song “On My Own” and a remake of Mariah Carey’s “Love Takes Time.” Mau’s
soulful renditions make her truly worthy of Pinoy “Idol” worship.

Mau goes global this time
By Leah C. Salterio
Friday, September 21, 2007
Her life drastically changed after she became champion on Philippine Idol, which concluded late last year. She proved the naysayers wrong when she
clinched the coveted plum in the reality singing competition, the local franchise of the popular and widely followed American Idol.
Maureen Marcelo won against all odds. Proving that talent outweighs physical appearance, she got the nod of the voting public, as well as the judges,
by belting out her soulful renditions of classic hits and contemporary ballads in her powerful, inimitable singing style.
She also had to make a great sacrifice of leaving behind her two children — Patricia and Paulo — with their dad Richie, just to be able to compete
and make her dream come true. Moreover, she gave up what would have probably been a better life in California with her Puerto Rican father, who was
working on petitioning her immigration to the US before she joined the competition.
No regrets. Every effort paid off. Today, Mau, as she is fondly called, is a certified member of the local music scene where she has carved a niche
for herself. Tagged as the “black belter,” she enjoys her newfound fame as she keeps her feet firmly planted on the ground.
The 27-year-old Lucena native, who was dubbed “Soul Idol” on Philippine Idol, started singing at a young age of seven. But the time she was 20,
she was already a veteran of singing competitions including the TV contest Star for a Night, where Sarah Geronimo was discovered and emerged champion,
too.
Mau, however, had been faced with tremendous odds towards achieving her dream simply because she “didn’t fit the mold.” She had to endure
criticism about her weight and skin color. In a business where looks can be one’s ticket to fame, Mau was a “diamond in the rough” who simply
banked on her innate talent. Armed with her unmistakable vocal gift, she single-mindedly pursued her dream.
Part of Mau’s winning bonanza on Philippine Idol (apart from the P1-M cash prize) is a solo album under Sony BMG Records. Recently, she released her
full CD, I Shine for You, which contains 11 tracks of revivals and original compositions, including inspirational tunes which she herself wrote.
“The title track, I Shine for You, describes the struggles I went through,” Mau shares. “It also serves as my way of showing appreciation and
gratitude to all those people who supported me all the way. I will always be grateful to them. They helped pave the way to where I am now.”
Mau showcases her versatility in such tracks as Try Love and Your Love, Keep on Tryin’ and the remix version of I Shine for You. She combines
sentimentality and control in Vehnee Saturno ballads Sino Naman Ako and Labis Labis.
She delivers her powerful R ’n B style vocals in her signature winning piece, On My Own, plus her versions of Mariah Carey’s Love Takes Time and
Ariel Rivera’s hit, Minsan Lang Kitang Iibigin.
Prior to her complete album, Mau came out with an extended play (EP) CD that contains On My Own, her winning piece on Philippine Idol. Also in the
album are two of her other memorable signature pieces in the competition, Love Takes Time and Minsan Lang Kitang Iibigin, the title track, Try It On
My Own, as well as minus one versions of the songs.
Mau also recorded two track on Philippine Idol: The Final 12 CD — Minsan Lang Kitang Iibigin and the group song, Kaleidoscope World with the other
finalists. Prior to Philippine Idol, Mau recorded a self-titled album of original songs using the moniker, Samantha Brown.
She attests that winning Philippine Idol has given her and her family a better life. Earning the keep for her immediate family since she was seven,
Mau wants to work harder to be able to continue supporting her loved ones.
There’s no stopping Mau from conquering greater musical heights. After the release of her solo album, she is bent on making it bigger by going
global. That is set to happen when she competes on the Asian Idol singing tilt this November, representing the country in Indonesia.
“If I was able to fulfill my dream before, I believe I can dream bigger,” Mau said. “That’s not so bad to do. Everything that happened to me
is a blessing. I cannot be thankful enough that all my hard work is now paying off.”

GMA 7 vs ABS-CBN
There’s a new battle to be fought come early next year between the two giant networks. With GMA 7 clinching the rights from Fremantle Media to air
"Philippine Idol," the network is undoubtedly pitting it against ABS-CBN’s Endemol franchise for "Pinoy Dream Academy."
While "Philippine Idol," the local franchise of the highly popular "American Idol," is a virtual singing competition, "Pinoy Dream Academy" is a
reality talent search, where the participants are billeted in one house for the entire duration of the contest.
"Philippine Idol" and "Pinoy Dream Academy" are reportedly airing against each other on primetime TV early next year. This is expected to change
the competition in evening programming, presently dominated by teleseryes and big-budget action-fantasy dramas. When the singing contests battle it
out against each other for primetime ratings, then it’s a different and exciting battle for the two giant networks.
Meanwhile, ABC 5 has issued its official statement after losing the "Philippine Idol" franchise to GMA 7. ABC 5 said Fremantle wanted to give them
other franchises for programs, but they simply wanted "Philippine Idol" and do the contesting their own terms.
When GMA 7 came into the picture and was willing to absorb other Fremantle formats, the latter granted the "Idol" rights to GMA 7. In no time, GMA 7
presented its local version of "Celebrity Duets," a Fremantle original production which is now one of the top-ratings shows on the network, hosted
by Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid.
ABC 5 is aware GMA 7 gave a better offer to Fremantle, that’s why the latter got the "Philippine Idol" rights. But lest everyone forgets, ABC 5
wishes to remind viewers that they are the first network to buy foreign program formats and break new ground in primetime TV. They produced local
versions of "Family Feud" (hosted by Ogie Alcasid) "The Price is Right" (hosted by Dawn Zulueta) and "Wheel of Fortune" (hosted by Rustom
Padilla).
ABS-CBN simply followed suit with its Endemol franchises for "Pinoy Big Brother," "Deal or No Deal," "Pinoy Dream Academy" and more recently,
"One Versus One Hundred." GMA 7 is the last one to join the fray by virtue of its tieup with Fremantle Media.
Poor Mau Marcelo, the champion of "Philippine Idol" on ABC 5, has to suffer. Mister Showbiz heard she will not be recognized by GMA 7 as the winner
of the first season. Runners-up Gian Magdangal and Jan Nieto have signed up with GMA 7.
Maureenians,
Mark your calendar on the following dates :
Oct 6 - Mau will be the studio contestant in GAME KA NA BA?
together with other singing champs, see how witty and bubbly our MAU
in that show, of course you have to watch it to know if she won, you

Also, Dr Calayan chosen Mau in the 'Celebrity Duets' in GMA 7 on their

Tentatively, Mau will launch her Album 'I Shine For You' in SOP on Oct 14.
Our Mau will soon be very visible in TV guestings either on GMA 7 or
in ABS-CBN ...
Let us continue to support her, her struggle in Philippine Idol is not
yet over, there are lots of rumors around upon GMA getting the
franchise of the Philippine Idol.
Mau will still be the very 1st Philippine Idol that's already a
history ...
Thanks,

(Was it unfair that Mau wasn't made to sing or wasn't given as long an exposure as the others?)
[Edited on 10-8-2007 by saturnyne]
I was able to watch it and good thing she was able to be one of the Top 5. She's quite smart (who the hell knows what "peng yu" means? hehe...)
I agree however that it seems unfair why she wasn't given a chance to sing like the others.
i've watched the video at i was glad that Mau gave it a good fight despite the biased treatment given to her by Edu Manzano. Who is that Champagne?
Mau deserved to be given more exposure as she has a title on her own just like Erik and Christian.
no way!!! Youtube erased the links grr.
Friends,
Duet with Calayan didn't push through, mukang ayaw talagang bigyan ng
This coming Sunday, she will be promoting her Album I Shine for You,
she will be singing I Shine For you with 2 other Pinoy Pop Superstar
Mau ... Jan will be introduced in SOP.
Anyway, let's give her a big exposure in the Internet, please vote for
the song 'Heto Ako' which she interpreted before winning the
Philippine Idol title, song composed by Mart Ilagan, here's the link "

speaking of Jaclyn Grabe ang galing nya nung kinanta nya yung Somewhere Over The Rainbow. GRABE!!! Hataw talaga.
I am a fan of Mau pero bakit parang di nagbago ang itsura nya, di pa rin sya telegenic. I hope that somebody will help her with her wardrobe and also
her tummy, sobrang laki parang buntis. i still love her voice though.

support/vote for Mau next month.
Can we have like a charity thing. So that we have money to vote for Mau. Guys were talkin about Indonesia and India here. for sure they have so many
people who will vote for their own. What ya think?
uy idol_fanatic, super idol fanatic ka pa man din!
read the following below para malinawan ka.
posted from http://www.theasianidol.tv/voting_faq.html
Q: Is Asian Idol the same format as regular Idol?
A: The creative format of the show is similar, with 5 participants contesting against each other on December 15 in Indonesia to determine the winner,
on the basis of votes received.
However, some elements had to be adjusted given that Asian Idols is a regional vote-based show, and vote bases are different according to the
population of participating countries.
Hence, a special 'two choices' algorithm has been devised to enable combination voting to produce the ultimate winner in a fair and equal manner
using a system based on tried and tested vote system called proportional representation or PR.
Q: So how is it fair when all the countries have vastly different population sizes?
A: Population size is removed as a determining factor by making the total vote generated a percentage -- and not a figure that just adds up individual
votes. Any one country can only deliver a vote count valued at 100% -- whether it has 4 million people or 1 billion people.
Q: Why aren't the votes given different weighting or preferences instead?
A: The Equal and Even Cumulative voting method has been found to work on numerous levels of fairness, whilst being the easiest ballot format for mass
voting.

OFFICIAL CORRESPONDENT FOR ASIAN IDOL
Hi guys! Sensya na ngayon lang ako nakapag-post sa forum (lurker na lang), pero I need your help.
I was assigned by the people behind Asian Idol as one of its official correspondents sa kanilang website. If I'm not mistaken, dalawa kaming Pinoy
out of nine fan bloggers.
Request ko lang na post lang tayo ng mga updates about Mau Marcelo dito sa thread na ito para rin gawan ko ng essay about her journey to Asian Idol.
I'm currently writing one para i-submit sa kanila.
Mukha namang maganda ang prospects about Mau in Asian Idol, considering na hindi lang tayo ang puwedeng bumoto for her (maliban na lang kung may mga
ilang talangka...if you know what I mean).
Anyway, I'll keep you updated din kapag full-force na ang website ng Asian Idol. Thanks guys!
Quote:
so dapat iboto si mau at ung worst idol? hehehe.
i think thats a good idea star
Friends,
Our idol Mau is too busy in preparation for this big event on her life
for the Filipino people as a whole.
She's currently on strict diet and more on personal development and of
course getting a lot of pointers on the Do's and Don'ts in Indonesia.
Freemantle had chosen the song 'Ako Ang Nasawi, Ako Ang Nagwagi' as
her tagalog piece and her english piece is 'REACH' by Gloria Estefan.
Mau will give a different touch on 'REACH', this is definitely good a
song for Mau, the lyrics of the song really suited on her life after
becoming the 1st Philippine Idol by 'Try It On My Own', now she will
be going global by trying to 'REACH' her ultimate dream by putting our
Country into another level of musicality and artistry.
Let us pray for Mau's success ... Let us all support our 1st
Philippine Idol, your prayers will move her and our Country to the next
level ...
Thanks,
Mentor01
can I post that on my blog saturnyne?

by the way Im confused about ABC 5's Asian Idol ad.
they are airing the performance night 2 hrs earlier than Malaysia? db parehas oras natin sa kanila?
and based on the ad. they are airing the performance via satellite. ibig bang sabihin nun 7pm iair ng Indonesia yung Performance night? hmm medyo
maaga naman yata yun. usually they air an idol show 8 or 9 pm. hmm hindi kaya typo lang yun?

REACH
Gloria Estefan
Some dreams live on in time forever
Those dreams you want with all your heart
Refrain 1:
And I’ll do whatever it takes
Follow through with the promise I made
Put it all on the line
What I hoped for at last would be mine
Chorus :
If I could reach, higher
Just for one moment touch the sky
From that one moment in my life
I'm gonna be, stronger
Know that I’ve tried my very best
I'd put my spirit to the test
If I could reach
Verse 2:
Some days are meant to be remembered
Those days we rise above the stars
Refrain 2:
So I’ll go the distance this time
Seeing more the higher I climb
That the more I believe
All the more that this dream will be mine
Chorus :
If I could reach, higher
Just for one moment touch the sky
From that one moment in my life
I'm gonna be, stronger
Know that I’ve my very best
I'd put my spirit to the test
If I could reach
Chorus 2:
If I could reach, higher
Just for one moment touch the sky
From that one moment in my life
I'm gonna be....
I'm gonna be stronger yes I am
I'd put my spirit to the test
If I could reach
If I could, If I could, If I could
If I could reach
I'd reach, I’d reach, I’d reach
If I could reach
(say reach until fade)

Philippine Idol Mau Marcelo will be among the first Asian Idol contestants to arrive in Jakarta tonight at 9:55 p.m. in Soekarno-Hatta Airport via
Singapore Airlines flight SQ 968 together with Indian Idol Abhijeet Sawant.
thanks Star for the update
According to the Idol special last night, Mau's album turned gold in a few days. When did that happen?
actually ganyan did ang tanong ko last time. pero may nagsabi sa blog ko na totoo raw na naka Gold yung Album ni Mau.
well thats what they said. Even Star agreed. pero hindi nga totoo ba na naka Gold yung album nya? parang wala naman akong narinig na ganun balita. to
think ikaw dapat alam mo yun db saturnyne?
I think Mentor01 can clear this up.
Mau arrived in Singapore on Dec 6 (Thurs) at 5:30PM for an stop-over,
gaya pa rin ng dati, she's too bubbly and excited regarding her
mission in Jakarta to clinch the 1st ever Asian Idol title. I've felt
a bit worried kasi mag-isa lang siya, naiwan daw sya due to some
'visa' problem. Anyway, we had good dinner with one of the Indonesian
restaurant in Changi airport, bawat makita naming pinoy and even
locals in the resto, we started promoting her journey to the Asian Idol...
After an hour of 'kwentos', I accompanied her going back to the
Singapore's departure area ...
After her arrival in Jakarta, may kung anong virus na dumapo sa kanya,
she went into therapy for 2 days, with God's help, ok na siya ngayon
and started to join the rehearsal.
siya ang bukod tanging pinalakpakan when she sung 'Reach' ...
Guys, let us support Mau to the fullest. there will 50/50 judging
criteria, 50% from the judges and 50% from the audience voting.
Magtulong-tulong tayo na maipanalo ito ... Let the Philippines unite
once more ...

Glad that despite the odds that came her way, Mau was able to arrive in Indonesia with still enough time to rest and prepare for the competition.
We have proven it before that we can do something when we unite, i encourage everyone to please vote for Mau.
Go Maureenians, Go Philippines. Go Go Mau!!
Go Mau!

Mau's update in Asian Idol
Let us continue to support Mau in Asian Idol, your prayers will help
her a lot to make her stronger on her journey to be the 1st ever
Asian Idol.
Even the judges from different countries like her and becoming their
favourite ... this is a very good sign na malakas talaga ang
international appeal ng ating si Mau.
Even in the internet poll, malayo ang agwat ng boto niya from the
rest of the Asian Idol hopefuls ...
To clear the issue on her album, wala pa pong linaw kung talagang
naka gold na nga 'to, hopefully after her stint in Asian Idol, mas
lalo pang tangkilikin ng masa ang mga original songs niya from her
album like 'I shine for, labis-labis, sino ba naman ako at hanggat
kaya ko pa.
Let us make this album not only gold but platinum if we will continue
to buy this and offer this to your friends and family ... this is a
worth buying album from our Asian Idol.
God bless Mau and God bless the Philippines ...

How to vote
Voting is via SMS or text. Each voter in every country has to vote for two Idols in each SMS. The texter cannot vote for the same Idol twice in the
same SMS or else the vote will be invalid. A viewer can vote as many times, and for as many two combinations as he/she wants. Texters will indicate
not the name of the contestants, but the country represented. For Filipino viewers, type
VOTE<space><Country1><space><Country2> send to 2959 for all telecommunications providers (Globe, Smart, Sun). For example, in
order to vote for Mau of the Philippines and Hady of Singapore, one must type: VOTE PHIL SIN and send to 2959 (for all telecom companies). Voting
starts when the host gives the signal on the Saturday (Dec. 15) performance show, and ends at 11:30 pm of Sunday, Dec. 16 in the results show which
starts at 10 p.m.
Other participating countries and their respective keywords are: VIET for Vietnam (Phuong Vy), INDO for Indonesia (Mike Mohede), MAL for Malaysia
(Jaclyn Victor) and INDIA for India (Abhijeet Sawant).
Asian Idol on ABC is definitely a must-see show this weekend!

I just read the spoilers. OMG! I became anxious! OMG!
So guys, let us not vote for Indonesia or Malaysia, ok?
hi starczamore, nice to see you back, long time no post huh!! i am glad that this forum is still alive so we can encourage the other members to
support mau thru txt votes. Nice also to know that she is doing good in the competition.
Go Mau, Go Philippines.
Saturday morning. Aaaargh!!!
Basta, para sa akin, it's still an even ball game.
[img]http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/845/asianidolvotebp5.jpg[/img]
[img]http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/7456/asianidol01ug0.jpg[/img]
[img]http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/1302/asianidol02nn0.jpg[/img]

“I’m so excited and nervous at the same time. This is such a big deal for me
since I’m not just representing myself
but our country as well. I hope the
Filipinos will help me win again by voting for me, this time, as the first Asian
Idol,” Mau appeals.
1. Each voter in every country has to vote for 2 Idols within each SMS.
2. The voter cannot vote for the same Idol twice in the same SMS.
3. Unlimited voting.
4. Philippines voting syntax: Type
VOTE send to 2959 for
all telcos (Globe,
Smart, Sun)
5. Participating countries and their respective keywords:
Philippines/Mau Marcelo = PHIL
Vietnam/Phu'o'ng Vy = VIET
Indonesia/Delon Tharmin = INDO
Singapore/Hady Mirza = SIN
Malaysia/Jaclyn Victor = MAL
India/Abhijeet Sawant = INDIA
SAMPLE VOTE:
To vote for Mau of the Philippines and Hady
of Singapore, type: VOTE PHIL SIN send to 2959
for all telcos. P2.50 for
Globe and Smart subscribers, P2.00 for Sun.
[Edited on 12-14-2007 by saturnyne]
[File: Mau.jpg - 37.14 KiB]
Go Mau!!!
[img]http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/8657/1811572965lto1.jpg[/img]
Go Mau, Go Philippines, Go Asian Idol!!
are you going vote idolforever? I think you should. dagdag din yan
weeee.... few minutes to go it's asian idol na!!!!!!
i've waited for this show for almost a year
now it is here .......
thank you very much ABC 5 i love you very much
idol_fanatic, i have been voting thru the internet as for the text votes, i just encouraged my relatives in the Philippines to vote for Mau. I
am somewhere in Europe and there is no way i can vote for Mau thru text.
I only have one word for Mau's performance in Asian Idol. Outstanding.
pag nagvote po ba thru SMS may matatanggap pa po bang confirmation? please makikisuyo na po...we're voting for mau
Quote:

Go Mau!!! Go Philippines!!! Home of the 1st Asian Idol winner!
God bless Mau Marcelo!
@rolly07
THANK SO MUCH...
we love Mau and We are praying and hoping that she'll win...
here's my proposal
The system seems to be not getting votes from us, SMART subscribers. I've been voting with two SMART numbers and yet, no confirmation text has been
sent my way.
Go MAU...
Go kababayans...vote!

Bumoto na ako ng apat na beses...
VOTE PHIL VIET
Kayo?
Lapit na po umpisa ng 'ASIAN IDOL: Results Night'...
I wished Mau "lost" to a more worthy opponent, to an equally great singer.

Mau was excellent considering that fact that she had a cold during the performance night. What else if she was f the not sick?
the three english songs she submitted were : the greatest performance of my life, on my own, and reach.
Both Mike and Jac performed their winning peice[gemilang and I believe i can fly]. I am not sure about the rest of the idol. I wonder what would have
happened if mau performed her winning piece or at least "the greatest performance of my life" by Shirley Bassey.
honestly I voted a lot of times but I only recieved not even 50% of the text votes I sent.
The shouldve picked on my own. I totally love that song most especially the results night
hayyy
Let us not lose hope and still support Mau Marcelo. I believe that her joining the Asian Idol has gained her more exposure in the
international scene. Let us continue to pray that she will find her place if not in the Philippines, abroad.
Somebody should explain the "fiasco" of the SMS system. How come not all votes were being accepted by the 2959 line?
Someone should explain. Really.
ditto!!!
Hady Mirza won, nobody is expecting but that's the power of
voting ... In any corner of this scheme, the weak contender will
always be the winner ... why ... It is very common mentality to love
your own. Everybody knows that Jac, Mike and our Mau are the
strongest contenders as per the judges comments. If you are
Malaysian, you will not pair Jac to Mau or Mike because you will be
thinking that Mau or Mike will win, same with peoples in Phils and
peoples in Indonesia, the least, you will be pairing the vote to the
weakest contender who happen to be Hady, Vy or Abhi. Since Hady is
also a Malaysian decent, majority will pair Jac to Hady, plus the 2nd
votes he earned from Phils, Vietnam, India and Indonesia ... the
verdict, 1st Asian Idol is Hady Mirza ...
It's the voting scheme that we need to blame ... so let's stop from
here ... The most important thing is, she never let down the
Philippines, though she was sicked that time, she still pulled out
the very best on her 2 outstanding performances ...
Our Mau is very much happy on this new experience which opens a new
door for her in international arena.
Continue to support her album ... soon she will be shooting the MTV
of 'Sino Ba Naman Ako' penned by Vehnee Saturno ...
And by the way, a lot of people upset on her production number, but
she cannot do anything but to give her best shot ... she don't have
any choice, the show must go on ...
She is very thankful to all your prayers and supports!

Mau Marcelo holds mall shows
Mau Marcelo’s latest single "Sino Ba Naman Ako?" continues to be a favorite among listeners of top radio stations all over the country.
Heartbreaking lyrics and a catchy melody have made it an appealing and enduring song. It has been in fact been chosen as the theme song of the GMA
afternoon Koreanovela "Comeback Soon-Ae."
Mau Marcelo will have mall shows starting Feb. 3 at the SM Dasmariñas, Cavite. She will be at SM Bacoor, Cavite on Feb. 9 (Saturday), SM Marilao,
Bulacan on Feb. 17, and SM City Lucena on March 8. Mau will sing cuts from her debut album, "I Shine For You." All shows start at 5 p.m. Every
purchase of the album entitles the buyer to a free poster, meet her up close and personal and have her album and poster autographed.
Catch the music video of "Sino Ba Naman Ako?," which featured Zeke Dimaguila of Pinoy Big Brother Season 2 as her leading man. To vote for Mau’s
video on MYX, key in MYX Vote Sino Ba Naman Ako and send to 2366.
Earlier this afternoon, Mau guested on DZMM TeleRadyo, particularly on the show Showbiz Mismo (with Cristy Fermin & Jobert Sucaldito).
Good thing that Mau was given ample time to promote her shows and her latest single "Sino Ba Naman Ako?" was even playing in the background. The
two hosts had nothing but praises for Mau. There were even texters who expressed their support for her and were hoping that she be a regular on ASAP
'08.
She also has a spot on today's issue of The Philippine Star, particularly on the Entertainment Section.
And speaking of Mau's show, she will have a Valentine Show on the 13th and the 14th at Tropez Bar, Greenbelt 3 with Gian Magdangal.
And keep supporting our Philippine Idol. Request for her songs and videos.
[Edited on 2-4-2008 by saturnyne]
Earlier this afternoon, Mau was on Moms (QTV 11). The episode was entitled "I'm fat, so what?!"
Mau was quite reserved and demure during the show, compared to Tess Bomb who hogged (no pun intended) the spotlight. Mau sang a bit of Try It On My
Own and the hosts and the other guests were impressed. In fact, Marissa Sanchez pointed out that the reason why Mau was so demure during the show was
because she was a diva, and divas are expected to act that way. But Mau was able to answer the questions well.
Too bad she wasn't able to promote anything. But at least she was seen on tv again. Hope to see more of her.
Love Sings (Mau Marcelo's Valentine Show)
Have a romantic evening with Philippine Idol Mau Marcelo and Idol runner-up Gian Magdangal as they serenade you with beautiful and timeless love
songs.
That's on the 13th and on the 14th of February, Tropezz Bar, Greenbelt 3, Makati City. Show starts at 8 pm. For inquiries, please call 757-4484. A
ticket costs Php 500.

GOOD NEWS:
ABC-5 signs content partnership with Malaysia-backed group
ABC-5 president and CEO Antonio Cojuangco announced recently that the network has entered into a major blocktime agreement with MPB Primedia, Inc.,
a Philippine corporation backed by Media Prima Berhad of Malaysia as part of a
long-term strategy to make the network more competitive. “This deal will ensure
a steady and sustainable flow of innovative programming that will differentiate
ABC-5 from the other networks, and at the same time guarantee that ABC-5 earns
a healthy profit from its airtime,” Cojuangco said.
Details of the network's new programming thrust will be announced soon, but
in principle MPB Primedia Inc. will produce and source most of the entertainment programs while ABC-5 will continue to be responsible for news
programming and operation of the stations. These and other available details were announced by
top network officials Reggie D. Galura and Roberto V. Barreiro to the ABC
workforce in a general assembly convened at the Nova studios.
Media Prima Berhad is a leading media investment group in Malaysia with interests in television, radio, print
and content creation. Aside from the Philippines, it is looking for other investment opportunities across Asia.
With the new relationship between ABC-5 and MPB Primedia Inc., both parties may collaborate on potential
regional opportunities to fully benefit from the strategic partnership. It may also open the doors to exposing
Filipino creative and performing talents to the rest of Asia – which Cojuangco has already initiated through
“Cinemalaya,” the independent film movement that has produced internationally awarded digital films.
ABC-5 will order a new transmitter which is envisioned to be at part with that of leading networks to be operational
by the third quarter of this year. Other necessary automation equipment will also be procured.“Our objective in
the long run,” he added, “is to provide the audience with more quality programming.”

ABC-5 ties up with KL firm
ABC-5 has entered into a major block time agreement with MPB Primedia Inc., a local company backed by Media Prima Berhad of Malaysia, Antonio
Cojuangco, ABC-5 president and chief executive, announced yesterday.
Cojuangco said the deal was part of a long-term strategy to make the network more competitive.
“This deal will ensure a steady and sustainable flow of innovative programming that will differentiate ABC-5 from the other networks and, at the
same time, guarantee that ABC-5 earns a healthy profit from its airtime,” Cojuangco said.
He said the network would announce details of its new programming thrust soon.
Cojuangco said MPB Primedia Inc., in principle, would produce and source most of the entertainment programs while ABC-5 would continue to be
responsible for news programming and operation of the stations.
Media Prima Berhad is the leading media investment group in Malaysia with interests in television, radio, print and content creation.
Media Prima Berhad, which is listed in the Malaysian Stock Exchange, has investments in four of the six free-to-air television channels in Malaysia
with a combined 53 per cent share of TV viewership. It also has investments in The New Straits Times (Malaysia) Berhad, the country’ oldest and
largest newspaper publisher. It publishes four newspapers—New Straits Times, Berita Harian, Harian Metro and The Malay Mail, which have a combined
circulation in excess of half a million copies per day.
Media Prima Berhad is looking for other investment opportunities across Asia, aside from the Philippines.
With the new relationship between ABC-5 and MPB Primedia Inc., the local TV network said they might collaborate on potential regional opportunities to
fully benefit from the strategic partnership.
It plans to open the door to expose Filipino creative and performing talents to the rest of Asia, an initiative, which Cojuangco has initiated through
Cinemalaya, the independent film movement that has produced internationally awarded digital films.
Cojuangco also announced that ABC-5 would acquire a new transmitter to be operational by the third quarter of this year. Other necessary automation
equipment will also be procured.
“Our objective in the long run,” he added, “is to provide the audience with more quality programming,” he said.

Media Prima To Set-up Media Fund To Expand Regionally
KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 (Bernama) -- Media Prima Bhd (MPB) will set up an equity private fund called MPB Strategic Media Fund Limited Partnership
(Media Fund) which aims to raise US$100-150 million with an investment horizon of five to seven years in media assets across South East Asian and
other Asian emerging markets.
Its group managing director and chief executive officer, Abdul Rahman Ahmad said that the Media Fund will be MPBs vehicle for its regional expansion
plans in line with its strategy to grow and diversify the groups earnings and enhance shareholders value.
"The fund will be specifically looking at Asean countries. The first investment will be in the Philippines and we are also looking at other markets
like Indonesia and Vietnam," he said at a media briefing on the company's expansion plan here Tuesday.
In Philippines, MPB will establish a subsidiary, namely MPB Primedia Inc (Primedia), that will soon enter into a block airtime and consultancy
agreement with the ABC5 TV network, one of the television networks in the Philippines.
Upon the inception of the Media Fund, MPBs shareholdings and interests in Primedia will be transferred to the Media Fund.
Under a long term block airtime agreement with ABC5, Primedia will provide content and manage the sale of airtime of ABC5.
At same time, ABC5 will also undertake a repositioning and launch exercise as well as transmission quality upgrade, which Primedia will assist under
the consultancy agreement to ensure its success.
Abdul Rahman also said that MPB will be the anchor investor and had an intention to secure other domestic and international financial and strategic
investors.
"Yes, we are talking with both locals as well as internationals, these are very reputable and credible media companies and financial investors. But,
we are not able to name those parties until the closing of the fund," he said, adding the company will provide the details once the fund is
finalised.
Meanwhile, group chief executive officer, Television Networks of MPB, Datuk Seri Farid Ridzuan said that the company had also received enquiries from
other countries to manage their funds.
"We are also received enquiries from other countries, particularly from Central Asia, neighbouring countries as well as Northern Asia."
MPB shall also be the Media Funds fund manager (via the setting up of a fund management company) responsible for ensuring that the fund and media
assets are properly managed and achieve significant increase in value.
Macquarie Capital Securities (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (MCSM) has been appointed by MPB as the lead financial adviser to assist in establishing and raising
funds from potential investors for the Media Fund.
Abdul Rahman said that the company is excited about the growth opportunities in ABC5 and Philippines and intend to adopt similar strategies that
led to the turnaround success of all its television networks in Malaysia.
"However, Primedia will be managed by a team of local professional managers, consistent with Media Funds philosophy to have local management in its
country of investment," he added.
Primedia will be appointing a new local Philippines chief executive officer, a person with extensive experience working in an MNC within the creative
industry.
Farid Ridzuan is proposed to be appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the MPB fund management company as well as the CEO of Media Prima
International Division.
Farid has been given the credit of transforming TV3 into the leading TV station in Malaysia and being instrumental in the successful turnaround of
8TV, ntv7 and more recently TV9.
He will also remain as group chief executive officer, MPB Television Networks responsible over the four television networks, TV3, 8TV, ntv7 and
TV9.
Other movements within the Group include Datuk Amrin Awaluddin, the current CEO of ntv7, moving to TV3 to take over from Farid as chief executive
officer of TV3 while Datuk Anthony Firdauz Bujang, the current director of operations, TV3, will move to fill the position of chief executive officer
of ntv7.

26-03-2008: Media Prima to set up US$150m fund to buy regional media assets
by Gan Yen Kuan
Email us your feedback at fd@bizedge.com
KUALA LUMPUR: Media Prima Bhd is setting up a private equity fund, valued at up to US$150 million (RM480 million), to acquire high growth media assets
across Southeast Asia and other Asian emerging markets.
The company will be an anchor investor and manager of the fund, to be set up in the second quarter and named MPB Strategic Media Fund Ltd Partnership.
The fund will drive Media Prima’s regional expansion plan.
“Going regional is the right strategy. The media sector in countries like Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia is very large and vibrant which
we like to tap into,” Media Prima group managing director and chief executive officer Abdul Rahman Ahmad told reporters after a presentation
yesterday at the Invest Malaysia 2008 conference.
The media fund is expected to raise US$100 million-US$150 million with an investment horizon of five to seven years. The Malaysian branch of
Australia’s Macquarie Group will lead the fund-raising exercise.
Abdul Rahman said it had seen interests from media companies and investors in the central and northern Asia to invest in the media fund.
He told The Edge that Media Prima did not want to acquire media assets directly because such acquisitions, which were not expected to generate
earnings in the first few years, would drag down the group’s financial performance.
“We have other people to invest with us. After the fund becomes profitable, then we will look at buying over the assets (from the fund). With this
fund, the amount invested is small, so it won’t affect our dividend policy,” he said.
Asked if Media Prima has the expertise in fund management, Abdul Rahman said the fund would essentially manage media assets, for which the company has
“very strong track record.”
He said the fund would start to invest in the Philippines, where the market was dominated by only two major players and presented strong growth
opportunities.
In the Philippines, Media Prima owns 70% stake in MPB Primedia Inc that will soon enter into a block airtime and consultancy agreement with the
country’s ABC5 TV network. The remaining 30% in Primedia is held by SBC Markwendell Inc, which is involved in the trading of airtime.
Under the agreement, Primedia will provide content and manage the sale of airtime of ABC5, and assist ABC5 in undertaking a repositioning and
launching exercise and transmission quality upgrading exercise.
Media Prima’s 70% stake in Primedia will be transferred to the private equity fund.
“With TV penetration in the Philippines currently at 72.7% and total advertising expenditure (adex) reported at US$2.8 billion in 2006 with
television having more than 75% of that, ABC5 represents a high growth potential,” Abdul Rahman said.
He added that regional adex was expected to grow to US$15 billion in 2010, with double-digit growth across the region, in contrast with Malaysia’s
adex market that stood at US$1.5 billion currently.
The setting up of the media fund would involve some personnel changes in the Media Prima group.
For instance, Datuk Seri Ahmad Farid Ridzuan, current CEO of Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Bhd (TV3), will resign from his post and become CEO of MPB
Asset Mgmt Co Ltd (which will manage the private equity fund), and also CEO of Media Prima International division. However, he will retain his
position as group CEO of Media Prima television networks.
Datuk Amrin Awaluddin will resign from his post as CEO of Natseven TV Sdn Bhd (ntv7) to assume the role of CEO of TV3, while Datuk Anthony Firdauz
Bujang will resign from his post as TV3 director of operations to assume the role of CEO of ntv7.

Media Prima plans US$150m media fund
Written by btimes.com.my
Wednesday, 26 March 2008
MALAYSIA'S biggest media group, Media Prima Bhd (MPB), plans to set up a media fund worth up to US$150 million (RM480 million) to invest in media
assets across Southeast Asia.
Group managing director and chief executive officer Abdul Rahman Ahmad said the MPB Strategic Media Fund Limited Partnership has an investment horizon
of five to seven years.
The fund is expected to be launched in the second quarter of 2008.
"It will be MPB's vehicle to expand in the region, in line with our strategy to grow and diversify the group's earnings and enhance shareholders
value," he told reporters at Invest Malaysia 2008 in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
He said the concept of the fund is similar to other private funds, but in this case specifically targeting the high growth media assets within the
Asean region.
"We will be the anchor investor and at the same time secure other domestic and international financial and strategic investors," he said, adding the
group will also act as fund manager for the fund through its own fund management firm.
Macquarie Capital Securities (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has been appointed as lead financial adviser to assist in establishing and raising funds from
potential investors.
Abdul Rahman said the Media Fund's first investment will be in the Philippines, where there is a large and growing advertising market.
"We have set up a subsidiary there called Primedia Inc that will soon enter into a block airtime and consultancy agreement with ABC5 TV network,
one of the television networks in the Philippines," he said.
He said upon inception of the Media Fund, MPB's shareholding and interest in Primedia will be transferred to the new fund.
Abdul Rahman said under a long block airtime agreement with ABC5, Primedia will provide content and manage the sale of airtime while the network
will undertake a repositioning and launch exercise as well as transmission quality upgrade.
"With TV penetration in the Philippines at 72.7 per cent and total advertising expenditure reported at US$2.8 billion (RM8.96 billion) in 2006
with television having more than 75 per cent of that, ABC5 represents a high growth potential," he said.
He said MPB is aware that regional expansion and investment in media assets overseas will require substantial investment and comes with a certain
amount of risk.
"Our investment through the media fund will enable the group to minimise this impact to its earnings and balance sheet," Abdul Rahman said.
Besides the Philippines, MPB is looking at other potential investments in Indonesia, Cambodia and Vietnam.

‘Shall We Dance’ in Southeast Asia?
MANILA, Philippines—In inking a “major block-time deal” with Malaysian-backed local firm MPB Primedia Inc., beleaguered network ABC 5 hopes to
“differentiate itself from other channels and post a healthy profit at the same time.”
The deal was announced on Tuesday by the network’s president and chief executive officer Antonio O. Cojuangco, who explained in an official
statement that the new partnership is in line with ABC 5’s “long-term strategy” to make itself “more competitive.”
It has lost the “Idol” franchise to GMA 7, but ABC 5 management remains bullish.
Managing director Bobby Barreiro said that the new partner’s parent company, Media Prima Berhad (MPB), is also looking into the possibility of
“licensing” local shows like “Shall We Dance” to other Southeast Asian countries.
Instead of importing foreign shows, ABC 5 may go into exporting local shows, he said. “MPB is looking for exportable local programs. It is planning
to air both canned and locally produced programs on ABC 5 as part of the block-time deal.”
Barreiro noted that MPB is “the single biggest player in Malaysia, with interests in print, radio, television and billboard advertising.”
He said MPB is behind four of the six TV stations in Malaysia, and added that the firm’s expertise is “content creation.”
He said MPB recently put up a “media fund”—which will be tapped in making investments throughout the Southeast Asian region.
Vibrant market
“The first investment was made in the Philippines,” Barreiro said. “MPB chose the country because its officers noticed that the local
advertising industry is vibrant. They see a tremendous growth potential here and recognize the local talent pool, behind and in front of the
camera.”
He added that Cojuangco found the team-up with MPB “exciting,” as it would allow the local network to co-invest elsewhere in Asia.
In a related development, the network has ordered a new transmitter, which will be operational by the third quarter of the year, from Italian firm
Electrosys.
“We want our transmission to be at par with the two giants [ABS-CBN and GMA 7],” Barreiro said.
He stressed that these developments “are geared to make ABC 5 bigger and better… [and] to create wider viewing alternatives for the
audience.”
Cojuangco pointed out: “Our main objective in the long run is to provide the audience with quality programming.”

31-03-2008: Media Prima to turn around Philippines’ TV station

KUALA LUMPUR: Media Prima Bhd is confident of turning around ABC5, the main television station under Philippines’ Associated Broadcasting Company
(ABC), banking on its expertise in managing and transforming media assets over the past few years.
Media Prima group managing director and chief executive officer Abdul Rahman Ahmad said ABC5 was facing limited resources that resulted in it
incurring losses, and its entry would help tackle the problem.
“It will take time (to turn around ABC5). It’s an intensively competitive market. It’s a market dominated by two players with more than 80%
market share. Our hope is that there will be a third differentiated television network in the Philippines.
“This is a challenge but we are confident. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have made the investment,” he told The Edge.
ABC is the third-oldest television network in the Philippines, and is owned by businessman Antonio “Tony Boy” Cojuangco. The current flagship TV
channel, ABC5, was set up in 1992. ABC, the original radio and television network itself, was set up in 1960.
According to a Citigroup report, ABC5 currently has 1% audience and advertising expenditure (adex) share. The two incumbents, ABS-CBN Broadcasting and
GMA Network, dominate with 80% to 90% share while the other 16 stations share the balance.
Media Prima’s newly established 70%-owned subsidiary MPB Primedia Inc will soon enter into a block airtime and consultancy agreement with ABC5.
Under the agreement, Primedia will provide content and manage the sale of airtime of ABC5, and assist ABC5 in undertaking a repositioning, launch and
transmission quality upgrading exercise. The remaining 30% in Primedia is held by SBC Markwendell Inc, which is involved in the trading of airtime.
The setting up of Primedia is in conjunction with Media Prima’s proposal to set up a private equity fund, valued at between US$100 million (RM320
million) and US$150 million, to acquire high-growth media assets across Southeast Asia and other Asian emerging markets.
Upon the inception of the media fund by the second quarter, Media Prima’s shareholdings in Primedia will be transferred to the fund. Media Prima
will own less than 20% of the fund.
Abdul Rahman said the fund would see the participation of only five to eight investors, which Media Prima would determine during its upcoming road
shows in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
He added that funding would not be an issue and would not affect its cash flow, as the company’s commitment for the fund would be spread over a
period of five to seven years.
Citing the average returns of a private equity fund ranging from 20% to 25%, he said he was hopeful of the success of the media fund. He did not rule
out the possibility of setting up another similar fund for the same purpose in the future.
Abdul Rahman said the company was optimistic of the growth of the media sector in the Philippines, as evidenced by the strong growth of adex in the
previous years, regardless of the political situation.
Television penetration in the Philippines stands at about 73% and total adex in 2006 was US$2.8 billion, with television accounting for more than
75%.
Asked how well would Media Prima’s investment in ABC5 be protected, Abdul Rahman said: “Under the block airtime agreement, there is a fee
arrangement where the advertising income will be shared by ABC5 and Primedia. The fee sharing is to be finalised, depending on our costs of
content.”
There would be no profit guarantee from its Philippines joint-venture partner, he said, adding that there would be no cost of investment in ABC5 other
than the ordinary working capital for content development and provision.
Under the partnership, Abdul Rahman said a lot of synergies could be created from both the Malaysian and Philippine content.
“For instance, we are looking at dramas produced in the Philippines to be shown in Malaysia, and vice versa. Also, it may not be just the same
content. We can use the same format or drama scripts but we produce two versions,” he said.
Analysts were generally upbeat about Media Prima’s move to set up the fund. JPMorgan, in its March 25 report, said the fund would enable Media Prima
to leverage on its local media expertise to tap regional growth opportunities with minimal earnings risks.
Citigroup’s Teh Chi-Chang said he liked the idea of the media fund as it would monetise Media Prima’s turnaround expertise while sharing risks
with other investors and facilitating a diversified portfolio of media assets.
Meanwhile, RHB Research said it was “mildly positive” on the latest development at Media Prima. “While it indicates that management is taking
proactive measures in search of the next leg for growth, we are mindful that overseas ventures are fraught with difficulties and complications.”

“Student Canteen” on ABC?
“Nobody has mentioned ‘Student Canteen’ in ABC,” “BuzzBox” received the insider information about the buzz ABC is including the forerunner
of “Eat...Bulaga!” and “Wowowee” in its revamped programming come third quarter of this year. ABC will install a new transmitter to be
operational by the same time with a radiating power comparable to ABS-CBN and GMA. The new programs will be launched around this time. Owner Tony Boy
Cojuangco has signed a content and consultancy agreement with MPB Primedia, Inc., a local company newly formed and backed up by media conglamorate
Media Prima Berhad.
MPB will produce and source entertainment programs for the network. This will relieve ABC the cost intensive demands of program production. ABC will
continue to handle news and operations. Nothing yet is definite if it will handle their own sales and marketing activities. The agreement is in
principle at this stage and details are sketchy. “The Malaysians have been talking to a lot of local producers, blocktimers, advertisers and ad
agencies. Somebody is possibly selling them off the idea of ‘Student Canteen.’

What’s Tonyboy Cojuangco up to nowadays?
TAKIN’ CARE OF BUSINESS By Babe Romualdez
Tuesday, April 1, 2008
All of Tonyboy Cojuangco’s friends are glad to hear his voice again after a delicate operation removing polyps from his throat in Boston the other
month. A nephew-in-law, Dr. Randy Lopa who is an ENT specialist, accompanied him. In spite of all his personal problems, Tonyboy continues to focus on
running his business.
Just recently, his television network ABC 5 signed up with MPB Primedia, a local company backed by Malaysia’s Media Prima Berhad – as part of a
long-term strategy to make the network even more competitive in terms of programming and content. Media Prima Berhad is a leading media investment
group in Malaysia with wide ranging interests in television, radio, print and content creation. According to Tonyboy, this deal will give ABC 5 a
steady flow of innovative programming that will give it the edge over other networks, at the same time guaranteeing healthy profits from its
airtime.
The new strategic partners are planning to collaborate on other potential business opportunities in the region, and could give local artists and
talents more exposure in Asia. Tonyboy has been supporting the local entertainment industry through the Cinemalaya project – a movement of
independent filmmakers who have been producing critically-acclaimed indie movies using the digital format.
The deal between ABC 5 and the Malaysia-backed MPB Primedia is a clear sign that in spite of the political noise in the country, businessmen continue
to find a lot of investment opportunities in the Philippines. Another case in point is Information Capital Technology Ventures or ICTV with Mel
Velarde as President and CEO. ICTV bared plans to expand its reach by engaging in the telecommunications, media and information technology (TMT)
markets.
According to research by Morgan Stanley in 2006 on the TMT markets, several trends have emerged, among them the fact that the “pace of global
innovation is accelerating, with innovation coming from outside of the US in areas related to broadband and mobile internet,” with global investors
willing to support it.
Of course, one positive development that is expected to have a lot of impact in the country is the European Union’s acknowledgement that the
economic growth of the Philippines has been very good, citing the 7.3 percent GDP growth in 2007 which is the highest registered so far in the last 30
years.
No matter what people say, there’s no arguing that GMA is highly credited for the country’s remarkable economic performance, plus the fact that
the balance of payments has improved and that inflation has been largely under control. An international financial analyst who was a recent Manila
visitor marveled at the remarkable knowledge of GMA on business and the economy. There’s no question in his mind that she really knows her numbers
– which is not really surprising considering that economics is GMA’s forte.
If only businessmen would continue to focus on the business of business instead of adding to the political hubbub, then no doubt the country’s
economic growth would be sustained and would be flying sooner than expected. That’s the reason why Henry Sy is one of the most successful
businessmen in the country today – because from the time he started ShoeMart several decades ago, his focus has always been on business, never on
politics.
Even during Martial Law, Henry Sy did not get sidetracked and went about strengthening his business empire regardless of the political situation. Now
with Tessie Sy-Coson at the helm, the growth of the SM Group has been really phenomenal, straddling other areas like banking and property development.
No question ShoeMart’s success story is one that is largely unparalleled by many businesses in the country today.

MALAYSIA'S BIGGEST MEDIA GROUP SETTING UP FUND TO FINANCE ASIAN EXPANSION
KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 (NNN-BERNAMA) -- Media Prima Berhad (MPB), Malaysia's biggest media industry group, will set up a private equity fund called
MPB Strategic Media Fund Limited Partnership (Media Fund) to expand regionally.
The fund, which aims to raise between 100 and 150 million USD and which will have an investment horizon of five to seven years, plans to invest in
media assets across South East Asian and other Asian emerging markets, says MPB group managing director and chief executive officer Abdul Rahman
Ahmad.
He told a media briefing on the company's expansions plans here Tuesday that the Media Fund would be MPB's vehicle for its regional expansion plans
in line with its strategy to grow and diversify the group's earnings and enhance shareholder value.
"The fund will be specifically looking at Asean (Association of South East Asian Nations) countries. The first investment will be in the Philippines
and we are also looking at other markets like Indonesia and Vietnam," he said.
MPB, which controls both print and electronic media in Malaysia, will establish a subsidiary in the Philippines -- MPB Primedia Inc (Primedia) --
which will soon enter into a block airtime and consultancy agreement with the ABC5 TV network in that country.
Upon the inception of the Media Fund, MPB's shareholdings and interests in Primedia will be transferred to the Media Fund.
Under a long term block airtime agreement with ABC5, Primedia will provide content and manage the sale of airtime of ABC5. At same time, ABC5 will
also undertake a repositioning and launch exercise as well as transmission quality upgrade, which Primedia will assist under the consultancy agreement
to ensure its success.
Abdul Rahman also said that MPB would be the anchor investor and intended to secure other domestic and international financial and strategic
investors.
"Yes, we are talking with both locals as well as internationals, these are very reputable and credible media companies and financial investors. But,
we are not able to name those parties until the closing of the fund," he said, adding that the company would provide the details once the fund was
finalized.
Meanwhile, the group chief executive officer for Television Networks of MPB, Farid Ridzuan, said the company had also received enquiries from other
countries to manage their funds.
"We are also received enquiries from other countries, particularly from Central Asia, neighbouring countries as well as Northern Asia."
MPB shall also be the Media Fund's fund manager (via the setting up of a fund management company) responsible for ensuring that the fund and media
assets were properly managed and achieved significant increase in value.
Macquarie Capital Securities (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (MCSM) has been appointed by MPB as the lead financial adviser to assist in establishing and raising
funds from potential investors for the Media Fund.
Abdul Rahman said MPB was excited about the growth opportunities in ABC5 and in the Philippines in general and intended to adopt similar strategies
that led to the turnaround success of all its television networks in Malaysia.
"However, Primedia will be managed by a team of local professional managers, consistent with Media Fund's philosophy to have local management in its
country of investment," he added.
Primedia will be appointing a new local Philippines chief executive officer, a person with extensive experience working in a multinational
corporation within the creative industry.
Farid Ridzuan is proposed to be appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the MPB fund management company as well as the CEO of MPB's International
Division.
Farid has been given the credit of transforming MPB's TV3 into the leading television network in Malaysia and being instrumental in the successful
turnaround of 8TV, ntv7 and more recently TV9, which MPB subsequently acquied from other controlling companies.
He will also remain as group chief executive officer of MPB's Television Networks, with responsibility over the four television networks -- TV3, 8TV,
ntv7 and TV9.
Other movements within the Group include Amrin Awaluddin, the current CEO of ntv7, moving to TV3 to take over from Farid as chief executive officer of
TV3 while Anthony Firdauz Bujang, the current director of operations of TV3, will fill the position of chief executive officer of ntv7. --

Media Prima in RM100m deal with Philippines' ABC5
By Hafidah Samat
THE country's largest integrated media group, Media Prima Bhd (MPB), is poised to give the Philippines television station ABC5 a "facelift" via its
latest consolidation in the middle of the year.
The RM100 million venture will see MPB utilizing its expertise and resources in operating and handling the station.
According to MPB International chief executive officer and group CEO Datuk Seri Farid Ridzuan, the company is expected to enter a dominant block of
airtime and consultancy with ABC5.
MPB will be responsible for providing the content and managing the sale of ABC5's airtime.
Farid said branding is key to repositioning and upgrading ABC5's transmission quality.
It is a challenge, but we are confident in taking our experience to a bigger arena," he said at a meet-and-greet session with media members
yesterday.
Also present was TV3's newly-appointed chief executive officer Datuk Amrin Awaluddin.
"Our emphasis is on brand identity, which will enable us to determine viable content for our target audience in the Philippines," he added.
Under the partnership, ABC5 will undergo a progressive revamp of its content line-up.
Farid said a number of potential programming ideas can be developed from both the countries' formats.
"Philippines is a young and vibrant country. That is why we are looking at several local contents which will be suitable and relevant to their
market," he said.
He added that the popular drama serial Red Communications' Gol & Gincu will be reproduced for ABC5. Other programs include Spa Q, a 60-episode
telenovela about six glamorous women, produced by Global Station Sdn Bhd.
"We will outsource programming to some production houses in the Philippines and hope that we will achieve our mission to develop local talents for
the TV network," said Farid.
ABC5 is the country's third oldest TV network. Currently, it has one percent audience and advertising expenditure (adex) share. The two major
players, ABS-CBN Broadcasting and GMA Network, dominate with 80 percent of the market share.
The launch is expected to be between June and August this year.
